A/T overdrive solenoid 900

I own a 1992 940 turbo, with only 64k miles. " weeks ago the O/D stopped working, so my local mechanic (I live in Ecuador, SOuth merica) told me the solenoid had a short. He said he has fixed a couple so he is giving it a try. Does any one know how to do this or if this works? Is the second main problem I find in this extremly well built car. The other problem was when the turbo hose broke. My other alternative is to wait 2 weeks until I can get the part from the US.
