Results from trying to smooth out door panel puckering S90-V90

In a nutshell, not too good.

I tried it this weekend. I have puckering by the wood trim piece on all four doors and on 3 out of four panels, the leather is pulled away from the top. I removed the front driver door panel and tried to remove the fake wood trim. The panel came off reasonably well though removing the switch assembly and then pulling off the connectors was harder. I am always afraid of these older connectors breaking as they come apart. I was lucky that it didn't happen this time. BTW, two sets of plugs are identical pinouts with the only difference being color. Take a pix if you can to remember. Othewise test out the function before you put it back together.

I started working on the fake wood trim once I had the panel off. After pulling off the round clips which broke or breaking off the plastic posts entirely, I tried to pull it away only to have it start to crack in the middle since there is so much glue behind it. Called it quits on that part. I was able to stretch out the leather and reglue it on the top where it had pulled back but the big pucker by the wood trim remains. Without removing that trim piece, its impossible to smooth it out. Looking over the whole panel from the inside, it doesnt look too condusive to being repaired by an amature. The section in the middle is held in by plastic posts that are melted down to form rivits. They could be drilled out but then how to reattach. At the top of the panel, there is a metal crimp on piece that would have to be removed to pull the leather over the edge if you were to do it right. This piece is normally covered by the rubber seal at the base of the windw. Considering the amount of trouble to remove the one front door panel, I decided to leave well enough alone. At least the car runs nice...
