changing steering pumps 700 1986

If you have a donor car it is not that big of a deal because you do not have to deal with the pulley swap. There are only three hoses in the system: a suction hose from the reservoir to the pump, a pressure hose from the pump to the rack and a return hose from the rack to the reservoir. The rest of it is just nuts and bolts, unbolt the old pump and install the new one, tension the belt, refit and tighten the hoses, top of the fluid, fire it up and let it bleed itself. The only trick to it is getting all of the air out of the fluid. After you have fired it up turn it from lock to lock a couple of times and then shut it off and let all of the little pin head size bubbles congeal into one big one and work it's way out. You will need to do this a few times until you get it all out of the system, ultimately it will require setting over night and then it will be good to go in the morning. Piece of cake, now get 'er done.
