Showing 16 volts on guage/car lost all power 200

I noticed that my 1983 244 TI was showing 16 Volts the other day. This alarmed me a little, but it happend the after I switched out the oil pressure guage and left the light on for ten minutes. The only other time that it happend was when, I installed a stereo. So, I should have checked into it futher before i let my mom drive it but I didn't. I got a call this afternoon saying your car has just died. So, I go to where she is and the car was getting no power. I wiggled the battery cable a little was able to regain power. I got the car home and cleaned the battery cables, but it is still reading at 16 Volts. Are these problems connected or is this car just giving me a fit for being the middle Volvo child. Thanks for any information and happy bricking.
