Fender mirrors are actually still pretty popular in Japan (along with weird, doily-like, lace seat covers!). I considered finding some for my Amazon, but then thought better of it- if you spend any amount of time tinkering under the hood they just seem like a bad idea (sure to get in the way and just asking to get snapped off or something). It also seem like they'd have to be really convex to give you any real view coverage, and if you drive any other cars often, they're not where your instinct will be telling you to glance.
Anyway, I'm also looking around for mirrors for my Amazon too. The 'GT bullet racing' style, a design that originates from '60s England I think (Lotus, MG, etc) look kind of cool. There are the $$$$ Talbot ones, but cheaper versions from places like R D Enterprises. I'm not sure how they'd work, position-wise, but they're cheap enough I might get one to check out, see how it would do for the passenger and the driver's side. They have a retro-rounded look that might fit nicely with the lines of the Amazon, and give it a little race-y touch too!
