On going problem with struts clunking noise wheel bearing?

How about the nut that caps the strut tube? It can sometimes loosen up and create a space at the top of the strut tube. This allows the strut insert to move up and down in the tube and it will create a clunk as you describe. This is located under the rubber boot. On a 240 with a loose nut I was able to find enough room (after removing the wheel) to get a large steel punch on the nut and strike it with a hammer to tighten it back up.
