91 740 electrical woes 700

my wife tells me that occassionaly the engine service light comes on while driving; in addition the radio, ac, and wipers will not work - turn signals though, ok. Later, all is fine. My uneducated guess is a faulty electrical connection?

Experts, can you give me some specific guidance on where and what to look for?

Its a 1991 740 sedan, b230 automatic - (and one of the best cars I have ever owned)
