Hello All:

1967 Volvo 122S Wagon. I put up a post a few weeks back about engine numbers and I got back a response from JRobby (Jim) who offered to decipher some engine numbers for me. I am hoping that the offer still stands.

I actually crawled around the car this past weekend and took down every number except the rear differential. I am posting them here and have several questions about them:

Chassis
Typ: 222441M
Colour: 79
Upholst: 519-555
S (no number in the plate after the letter)

Body
52351

Engine (as laid out on the driver's side of the block)
Volvo 4968 B18
KBG
419330

Transmission
Type M40
Part# 254498
Fabr# 347214

I am confused by several things: I always believed that the chassis of the car is the frame. I know we are dealing with a unibody here but why is there a chassis number yet also a body number?

The engine: it looks to be a B18 but what designation? B? D? Something else? JRobby also indicated that the 4968 number should be six digits, not four. I hope he can shed some light here.

Speaking of numbers, I always hear people talk about P220, the 'S' designation, etc. Does anyone know where one can look up what all of these different body and style numbers mean? Just curious. Thanks in advance for the help.
