With the front carpet and pads removed, but the seats back in. Where the feet go, put in 10 to 20 layers of old newspapers. Replace the door sill trim.


Drive like that for a good while and see what happens. The newspapers will soak up and water, and also reveal where it's coming from.

When removing water, remember that it can pool in the tunnel under the front seat mounting panel. The tunnel is where the wiring harness to the rear runs on the driver's side. On the right hand side, fewer wires. Roll up a newspaper and stick in tnto the tunnel - does it come back wet?

Through that tunnel you get water into the rear seat carpet pads, without getting water up into the carpet itself. BTDT Pull a rear carpet and check.

Are the drainage vents along the bottom edge of the rocker panel clear of debris? the vents are in the weld - every four to eight inches the weld is not closed for a half inch or so. The theory is that air coming in the cowl grille flows in a channel (it's about a 2-inch square) that runs down about below the "A" pillar and into the rocker panel, then out the drain holes.

Good air flow will dry out that channel, but the system won't handle things like pine needles and larger leaves.
