Object on cable inside passenger door - What does it do? Also stop light problem 444-544

Over a dozen different cars, three running silicone, AKA DOT5 (including my "race" car) and no incidence of failure increase using silicone.
Also, over half of the cars (not the 122s) use the hydraulic brake switch and again, no failures (both Lucas and Bosch).

Perhaps I'm lucky? Perhaps I flush my fluids at least once in every three years (sometimes more often). Not the silicone, they just get a "burp" from time to time.
