760Ti - Oil pressure light questions 700

87 760Ti, 119K. I've only had the car about a month, during the first week the oil pressure light flickered a few times, I wasn't too concerned. I've had it back for about two weeks now since it went to the shop for a replacement turbo. Last Sunday the oil light started flickering again, it's gotten progressively "worse" each day. It flickers sometimes at idle, sometimes it doesn't. It flickers sometimes at throttle, sometimes it doesn't. It NEVER flickers when I'm braking (huh?)... Really no pattern I can observe at all.
Fresh oil change (regular 10W30), today I spent the morning cleaning the PCV lines and ports (2 lines were totally clogged) and I replaced the AMM with a spare I had.
I also cleaned the engine with degreaser, paid special attention to where I think the OP sender is located (front of oil pan?), nice and clean now, but the light is still flickering.
Car is running better than ever, it knocks like a son-of-a-gun, but my mechanic who did the turbo thought it was just valve noise and a small exhaust leak, he seemed pretty sure it wasn't a rod knock. I haven't asked him about the oil light issue, it wasn't doing it when he had the car in.

Might I get off easy with just a bad pressure sending unit? Are these normal symptoms?

Thanks in advance for any comments.
