problem replacing odometer gear on a 1987 240 200

I'm not too sure what suggestions I can make, as when I fixed my odometer I was lucky--got in, switched the gear, and reinstalled the instrument cluster without any problems.

I would say that the problem likely lies within your instrument cluster--you probably didn't pull any wires in your car loose while removing it. So, I would suggest taking the cluster back apart using the same technique as before until you get to the part where you put in the gear. Re-assemble the instrument cluster and install it, and see if it works.

I don't know what else you might want to try doing. You've checked the connections, so it's not a forgotten wire. Do the other gauges besides the odometer and speedometer work? I wouldn't think it would be too likely you could break something that affects only those two instruments, so you probably forgot to put something back or put it in wrong. Good luck getting things working again!
