'91 245 overheating... 200 1991

We have had our 1991 245 for 9 years and it normally runs like champ. This past weekend the temp gauge shot up like a rocket during some in-town Atlanta driving with the AC on (first time this year). Turned off the AC and it dropped back to slightly above normal. Later in the day I took it for a test drive and noticed that the aux AC fan wasn't turning when the gauge was in the hot zone.

Got under the hood and jumped the fan and found it to work fine. Then looked at the pressure switch for the fan. Took it off and went to the dealer. Well, Volvo doesn't make that anymore and they are searching the country for stock.

Came home, put the switch back in and ran some errands, sans AC. On the way home the temp gauge shot up again and hung until I got up to speed on an open road. Now I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the aux fan. Any ideas?

This car has run like a champ in the humid, hot south for years with the AC blasting ice cold. My wife wouldn't have it any other way.

Thanks, Rand
