As far as I know there is not any foam filter before the fan on any 960 model. Maybe something was introduced the last year of this model and does not figure in the parts list. The evaporator has a filter in the front side, that is on the side immediate to the center console. This filter is designed to stop condensation from splashing into the vent system. There is nothing on the opposite side next to the fan. On this side of the evaporator is where all the dust collects over time blocking the evaporator and giving the typical mildew smell when one fist turn the fan on, specially in humid climates.
