engine mount sequence 200 1989

OK, let's tweak/add a bit to your list:

1.) Put the front wheels on ramps OK. Good start.

2.) Disconnect the negative battery terminal Good idea.

Add this step - do an oil filter (and maybe oil, too) change now, mount job is much easier with the filter out of the way. Consider checking the alternator brushes condition while you're in the neighborhood.

3.) Put a jack w/ a piece of wood (I don't know what size to use) under the engine Use a bottle jack, put it to lift the front of the engine, block it up with 2x4 blocks, Don't lift it much at all. 1/8 inch or so.

4.) Unbolt the mounts. Mounts have upper bracket, top mount bolt, bottom mount bolt, lower bracket. Loosen the top mount bolt. Loosen the upper bracket bolts. Go under. Remove the bottom bracket bolts.

5.) jack it up some more, and take out the mounts and install new ones. Jack up the engine a bit more, just enough to get the weight off the mount. Get a 1/8 inch clearance between the bottom bracket and the cross member. Go topside. Remove the upper bracket bolts, and take out the mount with both brackets as one unit. Assemble it with the new mount, tighten the bottom mount bolt now. Install.

6.) lower the engine, and tighten the bolts Do the lower bracket bolts, leave quite loose. Go topside and put in the upper bracket bolts. Tighten them and tighten the top mount bolt. Go under and tighten the bottom bracket bolts. Install new oil filter. Lower engine and start clean-up.

7.) Have a lot of GoJo handy. Put old newspapers on ground before starting job. Easier to clean off road dirt/grease stuff afterwards.

See how this goes for you.

Good Luck,

Bob
