1987 245DL Vibration & Engine Centering Questions - Do I Need New Mounts? 200 1987

Just thought I would post an update!!!

I removed both rear axels and have discovered very little grease on the axel bearings. I have also discovered that I have a bad seal on my passenger side (right) rear axel bearing ... this is probably why I had to add so much gear oil (about a quart) to the rear differential. I ordered new rear axel bearings and seals and should be replacing them shortly. In them mean time, I re-packed the axel bearings with wheel bearing grease, and this has helped lessen the vibration I have been experiencing, but it seems like some vibration is is still coming from the the trans/engine compartment area.

I decided to check the driveshaft for play where it connects to the automatic transmission, and found a small amount of vertical play. I decided to order a kit from FCP Groton (Connecticut, USA) to replace the the AT tail bushing and seal and will change these parts as well.

I will keep you posted ... hopefully, the vibration problems will be gone shortly.

Thanks, Alex
