85 740 GLE does not run after engine cleaning....HELP ! 700 1985

Hi everybody! New to this site and it look's grate!I just bought my 4th Volvo, 740 GLE Sdn 1985, 92k Miles.I cleaned out the engine compartment, degreser and power wash, and now the engine only runs on idling. When I get close to the accelerator it dies off. Please let me know what I am missing. Note: 85 means that there are a lot of wires that are bare, dried out, but I don't know how bad they are inside their plastic shielding? I am thinking of ev shorts....
