Can LSD be removed without 'spreading' carrier opening? 200 1983

I'm scrapping an '83 turbo wagon, but would like to salvage the LSD unit from the 3.73 rear end.

Can it be done just by pulling the axles and bearing caps? Is the "rib spreader" required?
Or will the LSD come out without the ring gear?


And why is my Profile signature not showing? It "disappeared" yesterday, and I restored and resubmitted it -- but still no show.
