fixed the odo gear, but too gun shy to push the button 200 1990

Brothers and sisters! You have never steered me wrong. YUou've earned my trust many times over.

I followed the directions for changing the odo gear. You made it easy for my son and me to fix my daughter's car.

I noticed a button (broken off) in the lower righthand side of the guage panel, that extends through a tube to the back lefthand side of the speedo mechanism. I don't know what the button was for, and am too shy to push the broken stem. It is not the trip meter reset. Anyone know what it is? The tube is not mentioned in the gear replacement instructions.
