'90 740 running strange 700

My '90 740 with 205k miles on it was running absolutely fine up until this morning when i left for work.

The idle was sort of rough, maybe fluctuating around 100 rpms down and back up. No backfire or real loss of power (not that there's much in the first place). At higher rpms the engine would fluctuate down about 50-100 rpm and back up again. Same variation at any rpm. Happens every 2 seconds or so it's not extremely constant. This was with a cold or hot engine.

Any ideas? I cant imagine it to be a dirty throttle body if the problem existed ever at higher rpms.
