LOL - OK you guys convinced me, I just went outside and loosened the alternator up, now there is 1/2 inch of belt deflection. Thanks !

Still would like to know about a low voltage situation causing the car to run rich. Think I'll fill it up tomorrow and see if the MPG goes up now that the new alternator is in.
