The T-5 tranny is going in!! 140-160 1971

I put in a T5 a few years ago in my 1800 race car. The trans tunnel was cut up pretty bad for fitment, but that wasn't an issue for the race car. My two cents worth is as follows:

1)you should use the narrower driveshaft when you have the ford yoke welded on. It fits through the tunnel better

2) there is an on the shelf bearing for the input shaft/crank that can be purchased from motion industries (formerly bearing bearing). I just gave them the od and the id of the T5 input shaft and the overall thickness and presto chango the came up with one that was real close. it was only a little thinner than the volvo's. I use the same kind of shims that are used with the volvo bearing to take up the slack.

3) I had a custom clutch disk made that was like a regular volvo disk but a t5 sline. Quarter Master was the brand and they referred me to a distributor of theirs to have it ordered. I did the volvo sytle clutch for the sole purpose to use a stock b20 engine in the race car when the race engine was out of commission. that engine used a six bolt crank and my race engine uses a special 8 bolt that has a special race flywheel and clutch. For that set up, I order from Bob Griffith (tilton disk).

Hope this helps who ever.
