over drive not engaging. relay? solenoid? bad fluid? od relay where??? 200 1985

hi guys. this is my first post, though i have been reading them for quite some time.

i have been putting as much as 300 miles a day on my '85 240 since buying it. when i first bought it, it would switch into overdrive at around 55 or so. then i had to start getting it up to 55 then letting of the gas slightly for it to engage. then i had to get it as high as 60 or 65, then let off the gas to get it to engage.

i know that most of the posts say "relay" right off the bat on these 240's, but it seems to me that because it went out the way it did (as opposed to all of a sudden), i am inclined to believe it is something else.

i have heard different locations for the relay. does anyone know for sure where it is on an 85 240?

also, my friend who knows volumes more than i do suggested changing the fluid every few days for a while. should this be my fisrt step?

the wiring harness has also been mentioned a lot. the same friend and i pulled the entire harness, and went through it thoroughly. don't think the problem is there.

any help? direction? good wishes? voodoo hexes? i'll try whatever, i just need to be able to go over 60 sometime soon!!!

thanks for any help.
