1995 944t radiator temp plug 'popped' out/probably like a cork under pressure ??? 900

any help out there ??? came home this eve & was out moving things in the garage & noticed some fluid
underneath my wife's car...got the flash light & it's coolant/opened the hood to find coolant sprayed over the right side of the engine bay/overflow tank just about empty...couldn't figure it out...moved the car backwards to see how much coolant was on the garage floor & i find this plastic 'plug' & its oily like coolant & so i'm looking around & i notice a 'hole' in the top of the radiator side tank/right side...well it fit in tight...i'm at a loss...too much pressure in the system ??? is this plug gonna hold again ??? it was 90 deg + here in columbus, ohio today...any words of wisdom ???
