164E fuel cutting out 140-160

I have a 1974 164E and it all started when my car got too low on gas and almost died. Since then when it got to a quarter tank it would start cutting out, then it did it at a half and now it does it at three quarters. It does it at all speeds but only after I've been driving it for about ten minutes or so. I've already changed the fuel filter and the fuel pump seems to be working fine. I also bought a brand new distributor rotor and spark plug wires. My father says it may be the the distributor contact points. I figured the fuel pump may be losing power every so often but I'm not so good with the fuel system. Anyone have any ideas or a list of things I may be able to work through? Also when it reaches about 2,500RPM(I have no spedo) my car starts rumbling and shaking really bad but it eventually fades around 3,500RPM. Any ideas on that one?
Thanks
