speaker wires missing in door 200

i have a 89 240dl sedan. i've recently put in a new cd player, inserted a new speaker in the passenger door with the existing wires, but have not been able to locate the speaker wires in the driver's side. i pulled off the door last night, and have not been able to track them down. so i'm going to try and follow the wires from the cd player, through to the door. i have almost no electrical experience, but want to give this a shot. any suggestions on how to make this easier (i.e. not looking for a pin in a haystack?).
