wild alt belt & FCP bushings 700

A relatively new alternator belt broke ('88 745). I replaced it with a NAPA cogged belt, and now the top half of the belt jumps around wildly at idle. I can reduce the craziness some if I tighten the belt, but I don't want to overtighten it.

The mount bushings are two years old rubber from FCP. They already seem too soft. I can deflect the alternator with my hand. Anyone else had bad luck with the rubber bushings from FCP?

What about that extra pulley on the water pump? Is it possible to use a longer alternator belt that reaches around the water pump?

I also replaced the harmonic balancer w/ one from FCP about a month ago. I notice it wobbles a little. Is the FCP balancer worthless, too?
