Radio bust? 700 1990

I have a used '90 740 GL.
Today in the evening (after a rain shower - maybe this is a factor), I realised my radio isn't working, i.e., it isn't tuning into *anything*.

I noticed it when I used my griffin RoadTrip to tune my ipod to 88.1 fm and all I heard was silence. Everything was working fine and I realised that the little sign that says that the radio is 'tuned' to a particular frequency wasn't showing up anymore. I tried known radion station frequencies - and only silence. No static even. I know the speakers are working since I can 'hear' the silence (the kinda loud one that you hear).

I have the factory installed radio in this car - anyone have any suggestions/solutions? I'm screwed, since I don't even have a cd player in this thing - I use a fm transmitter with my ipod to listen to music.

This is my first car, so I'm somewhat of a car newbie. Know too much about computers, too little about car maintenance. Please help. Would taking it to a local mechanic be a preferable choice?

Thank You

Pranav
