Fuel smell by intake manifold 200 1980

I wonder if you could do a variation on the hose-to-ear method for finding the source of an unusual noise. You'd probably need a short length of large-diameter vinyl tubing to do it, but would sure be easier than removing the manifold if you don't need to! Just be careful not to hyper-ventilate while sniffing.
