rotor 700 1990

Hi all,

If cylinder 1 is at TDC (meaning piston is at its highest point and white mark on the camshaft is up) what is the correct position of the rotor? Should it be pointing relatively up or down? Where should it point exactly?
I read that it is possible to put it 180deg in reverse? Is that the case because car does not want to start any more after changing the distributor? I tried to reverse it too but it does not seem to go into the camshaft notch..

Thanks in advance.
Stefan
