valve cover engine threads stripped 900 1996

Two weeks ago I bought a 960 with 168,000 miles and a small oil leak from the valve cover for $3100. I thought a gasket would fix it, but it turns out 8 of the valve cam hold down nuts would not retighten because the threads were stripped- there were rags placed under the plastic cover to soak up exess oil by some inventive mechanic. I could only get 8-10 foot pounds torque on all valve cover bolts without strippping them more. The leak is fixed now, but I'm worried about what will happen down the road. I'm thinking of taking the seller to small claims court for not disclosing that there were rags in the engine or just getting rid of the car before the nightmare gets worse. What are your thoughts?
