rotor replacement, -distributor is off-set keyed. 700 1990

The distributor is offset keyed (can not be installed 180 off), and the rotor is keyed in one direction (also can not be installed backwards). I am assuming you have another issue that should be investigated.

Put the key in the "ON" position (position 2), turn the engine belts slowly by hand. As the engine rotates, do you hear the fuel pumps kick on and off for a few seconds? If so, then your Hall Effect sensor in the distributor is functioning properly. If not, then pull the distributor and check the Hall Sensor and it's electrical connector at the bottom of the dist housing (often damaged during cap & rotor replacement). FYI, the electrical connector can be replaced seperately from the distributor and is available through your Volvo dealership for about $6 (they will have to order it from the warehouse).

God bless,
Fitz Fitzgerald.
