front wheel stud help needed on ABS equipped 92 240!! 200

hello...
so i did the prerequisite research for changing out a broken wheel stud on the a front wheel. i discovered that i would have to grind down the new stud to get it in past the ABS sensor ring.

so this AM, i take the thing apart do a little grinding to get the broken one out, and try and put the new one in...i thought id just have to shave off a little bit to get it in, but i keep shaving more and more off. by the time i finally get it to slide past the sensor ring...i've taken a good amount of the stud off! too much for me to feel comfortable with...is this stud going to be viable with this much missing?

what is the right way to do this? is there a way to take that sensor ring off?

please help!!!

thanks,
kevin
