'91 740 elec. fan won't stop when key is off 700 1991

Didn't see this addressed when I did a Forum Search...I recently converted to R134 and all went smoothly. On Friday when I parked (approx. 2 weeks later) I heard the elec. fan running and thought nothing of it until 4 hours later the battery was dead. The fan had ran continuously during that time. I had to reach in and disconnect the fan motor wire at the connector to make it quit as it continued to run after the a/c was shut down for 30 minutes. What is it that controls the fan? There must be a thermostat close-by that is not calibrated properly. Is that true? Thanks in advance.
