rotor and pad replacement 900 1993

I have just attempted to replace the front rotor and pads of my 1993 940T with Girling single piston caliper (with ABS). As part of the procedure I pumped the piston out an inch or so, so that I could clean the exposed piston. I pushed the piston back and now cannot seem to get the new aftermarket pads (PBR 1198)into place without compromising the seals. Has anyone else had similar problems? It looks to me like the pads are too thick (the new rotor is 26mm thick), they measured 0.7".
