somebody hit my car -insurance related question 200 1983

bad news.

this 'runaway truck' (ford f250) escaped from a parking lot and rolled out of the inclined parking lot driveway, into my 83 240 wagon which was parked in front of my house.

question is:

does anybody know if there are things i can tell them that will increase how much money they give me should they decide to total the car? i'm kind of worried that they'll say 'oh your car is only worth 500 bucks' and that they will total it and not give me enough to replace it. my car isn't perfect, but it has been a good car and i really don't want to get a different one if i don't have to.

the car got hit in the driver side rear quarter panel, smacking the wheel wells and pushing the car into and up onto the curb. the passenger side tire got flattened, and it looks like the rear wheels got damaged. and there's slight body damage - i'm concerned about the axle, because that would have taken some abuse when the car got jammed into the curb, i think......

the witnesses said the car was going pretty fast too when it hit my car, so who knows how bad the damage is.

i know that i'll just have to work with the insurance company but i'm wondering if it's worth it to trot out the service records and what-not? do they care how much work you've recently had done?

i don't really want a newer car and i don't want to take advantage of the insurance company, but i want to make sure that i don't get screwed over by the insurance people either....... the other car's owner and i have the same insurance company, i'm hoping that might make it better. if i have to replace it, i just want to do what i can to make sure that i get enough money to truly replace it......i have no idea how they decide what to do...

i guess it'll all work out. i'm just nervous because i like my leaky old volvo and i really hope the damage is minor......

any insight?

thanks,

susan.
