How do you permanently bypass the '93's shift interlock? 200 1993

Okay, I've got two '93 240s, both bought used and originally equipped with that stupid shift interlock (you can't go out of Park or Neutral without stepping on the brake pedal)! And they've both got that little pushbutton ahead of the shift gate, in case it doesn't work right. But here's the thing:
On the first '93 that I bought, this whole mechanism doesn't work! I can shift out of Park or Neutral without stepping on the brake. In fact, at first I didn't realize it ever had the interlock (and I wondered what that button was for, until I read the owners manual). The only thing that does work on the car is that I have to put it in Park to remove the ignition key.
So with my second '93, its interlock works as it was designed, and it's a PITA to me. [I never believed the notorious "Audi runaway" stories -- I figured that they were all stupid old women who didn't know a gas pedal from a brake pedal!] And frankly, with two otherwise identical cars (except the working and non-working interlocks), I really like not having that interlock! I'm used to Volvos without it (I've had Volvos for more than 30 years).

My question, therefore, is either of two alternatives:
1) does anyone know what possibly is wrong with my first '93 that doesn't have a working interlock?
or 2) what can I do to render useless the interlock on my second '93? [which obviously is my real reason for asking question number 1, as if you didn't know :-).]

Thanks, folks.
