Interesting Oil leak 200 1987

My 87 244 has strange oil leak that I am about to troubleshoot but I thought i would see if anyone had any ideas on the issue. It leakes very minimal oil when driving around town for short periods of time, but when I drive on the freeway for a while (hours) it leakes a significant amount. I would guess about a half quart every 500 or so miles. What really bothers me is that the oil gets all over the bottom of the transmission and bottom of the car.

I replaced the valve cover gasket to little avail, so I am thinking that it might be the cam seal because it would make sense that the oil would only leak when being pumped and splashed around over along period of time. Would this make sense?

Thanks for any insight!
