Stalling after new fuel pump 700 1985

I installed a new in tank fuel pump yesterday and my ’85 760 seemed to be fine. On the way to work it stalled on the highway and wouldn’t idle properly. History: While replacing the old pump the plastic electrical connection was damaged and had to be removed. The wires inside the tank do not match the wires on the outside. I grounded the black to one of the bolts on the pump/sending unit cover plate and guessed the match of the other 2. Is it possible I have these 2 wires backwards? Would the pump run either way I have them? One more thing, my fuel gage is pinned at full with the ignition on or off.

P.S. My main pump and filter were replaced about 4 months ago.
