B23 ENGINE PROPER VALVE SEAL INSTALLATION 200

I am currently putting the head back on the engine for a diesel to gas conversion that I'm doing and am ready to install the cam. In the head gasket kit I bought it has the rubber seals that go on top of each valve I was told is to reduce the valves from chattering. My question is this, which way do these seals go on, with the flared side up or down? There's no reference to this in the Bentley manual. Thanks, Charles
