Bad Overheating Problem 700

Ok now Im really baffled. Today we reached into the high 90's for temps and my 760 diesel did not keep its cool and instead pushed the temp gauge to the far right until the heater core let go. Thermostat is in good condition, water pump is alright and nothing seems to be blocked. The only variable I have changed from the stock diesel configuration is the radiator because Im running the intercooler. Guys: you think the stock gasoline radiator is to small for the diesel? I didn't have an issue last summer however we never hit 101F locally and I didnt run the AC as much. My electric cooling fan is wired through a relay and comes on when the power for the AC comes up so its automatic.

What are the odds the radiator is too small for the diesel? I would think that if it could keep a gas motor of almost twice the power and less efficiency cool in traffic it could handle a diesel who is roughly 10% more efficient in terms of energy conversion.
