towing a trailer 1800 1972

Chuck;

From a power standpoint, I'm sure the ES can pull a (small) trailer...but beware of the hitch load...ES rear springs are well known for saggage...if your springs are OK, air-shocks may help...

Also, a trailer hitch MUST transfer its load to the FRAME...so a bumper mount is not a good idea on ANY vintage Volvo, all of which basically had sheetmetal bumbers...and although the ES bumper has internal reinforcement...so it MIGHT have been adequite if it was hardmounted to the frame...BUT, it is NOT hardmounted to the frame...it is mounted to the frame by way of the energy absorbing shocks, and I don't know how these are going to like being in tension...they are certainly NOT intended for it...EVER!

A custom hitch should have two straps running from the mount, under the tank diagonally, and coming up to the frame rails somewhere just behind the rear tires...tying it into the bumber can't hurt...I'm picuring the design which is common in Europe...I'll try to find and post some pix.

Wiring is the easy part!

Cheers
