Alternator trouble shooting for 242 200 1982

Howdy, I got a rebuilt alternator which is a little different than the previous one.

For some reason, the voltage at B+ is no more than the 12.3 battery voltage and the alternator light is not on.

It has a ground B+ (going to the battery via the starter) , D+ terminal (going to the alt light in the dash), but also a terminal marked '+'.

Continuity testing tells me that the alternator is grounded.

I think there may be a break in the wire going from D+ to the alternator warning light.

There is also an extra wire left over as part of the bundle from the alternator. It is thin, black and with a slot connector on it. When I attach it to the only remaining alternator terminal, the one marked '+', it makes the oil light stay on all the time, even in key position 1. I just unplugged that and insulated the wire end with tape.

Question:

Would a break in the D+ wire prevent the alternator from generating the 13.5 - 14.5v that it should?

Have I been sold the wrong alternator?

Any other comments welcomed.
