I'm planning to use the original ammeter in my '57 445. I have installed the alternator from my '75 engine donor and figured to just run the wire from the alternator to the starter [batt] through the ammeter and pick up power to everything else at the ammeter terminal too. Is there any problem with this? It seems like Im just substituting the alternator for the generator in [pretty much] the same wiring layout. Does the voltage change matter to an ammeter? Will there be a major change in the amount of current involved? Should I maybe have a fusible link somewhere in the system?
