87 240 back fires and stalls

Hello all. My 87 240 started up this morning and started to back fire and stall out and would not go over 5mph. So I shut her off and disconnected the AMM and could not start her at all, when I reconnected the AMM it started right up and runs fine now. Any ideas what is going on here? Thanks in advance for your help with this, you people have always been great!
