timing belt

it would be very very difficult for that particular belt to become "misaligned" the cam would have had to walk fore or aft or the crank would have had to do the same....both of which would probably manifest themselves in massive engine failure...aka tie that old block to a rope and use it as a boat anchore....now if you mean the belt slipped or jumpped a tooth as some like to say...well the symptoms are variing, but usually will be a very rough running engine to say the least...such a slip or jump is ususally not too hard to diagnose....turn the crank to top dead center and see if the cam sprocket marks line up with the marks on the cover...(make sure that the distributor rotor is aligned to the #1 speark plug terminal or eles you could be at bottom dead center rather than top dead center.) If the marks line up...all is good in cam land....just as an aside, i have never had one slip or jump...most of the guys I know who have have because of extreme revving or lack of maintainece on the belt and tensioner. what kind of hastles are you having?
