aux shaft removal 900 1994

Help! During a timing belt change the sprocket bolt broke off in the end of the auxilliary shaft on my '94 940 (B230). I know the shaft turns the distributor, so can I pull the shaft from the front of the engine to extract the sprocket bolt? I'm afraid if I do I might dislodge something inside the engine. THX
