violent starting 89dl, runs rough

I've had several suggestions to check the TPS (throttle position sensor) and CPS (crank position sensor). From what I've read, the tps is supposed to click just when the gas pedal is depressed. If this is incorrect, how do you check tps for proper operation?

Same question for the cps; how do you check it? I've wiggled the wires, but no change in symptoms.
