Please Help, in the middle of tranny swap, a couple questions. Didn't mark flexplate orientation, and Is the flexplate supposed to be perfect;ly round or did I damage it?

I am doing a auto tranny swap on my '89 244. I am changing it from a AW 70 to an AW 70L. The flexplate from the donor 740 did not have that riveted on ring around the circumference of the flexplate but mine does, I hope that it is compatable with the new tranny and torque converter.
Like an idiot I did not mark the flexplate orientation when I took it off, so now I am going to have to find TDC I guess and figure out how to line it back up. I thought that it would only go back on one way like there would be a woodruff key or something. I guess I can find TDC by taking going from when the rotor is pointing to the contact for the sparkplug wire for cylinder #1 and when piston is at at the top of #1?
Well that ring on the flexplate has one spot that is a little raised and I am wondering if it is supposed to be that way or if it happened when I was trying to pry out the torque converter. Is that what the crankshaft sensor picks up?
BTW, do you take out the crankshaft sensor when pulling the tranny, or can you line it back up okay when installing it?
It is so hot and humid out here today, it is in the high '90's and very humid I hope no one else out on the E-Coast has to do the same thing today.
Thanks for your advice and help
