'94 960 suddenly stalls or goes into limp mode 900 1994

Dear jrangel,

Good p.m. and may this find you well. Yes. This is a fuel injection problem.
Here are some possibilities, which may not necessarily apply to the 960 (I operate 940s):
- radio interference suppression relay - actually the fuel injection relay - likely is failing / has failed, cutting the power supply to the fuel injectors
- the fuel system relay is failing / has failed, cutting the supply of fuel, to the engine.

The fuel injection relay is in the engine bay, driver's side (USA/Canada models) either against the inner fender wall, or on/near the strut tower (according to Volvo TP 3502201, Lighting, Instrumentation, and other Electrical Equipment,
p. 103).

The fuel system relay is behind the kick panel, in the passenger side footwell, on the side closest to the front center console. This relay is in the top row, center.

You may be able to get used relays at a salvage yard. If they restore proper operation, you've found the fault, and then can get a brand new replacement.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

spook
